چکیده

Our goal in this study was to explore the potentials of extracting features from eye-tracking data that have the potential to improve performance in implicit relevance feedback. We view this type of data as an example of the searcher’ immediate context and as containing useful clues of the indications of the interaction between the searcher and the IR system. In particular, we explored if we could qualitatively identify features have potential to improve performance in implicit relevance feedback, and how such features correlate with document elements assessed as relevant or non-relevant. The results point to so-called thorough reading as one of the most promising features for identifying relevant information as input for implicit relevance feedback – in particular when it is related to the total time the searcher has looked an element.

Proactive Information Retrieval by User Modeling from Eye Tracking

In this position paper we review the results of the the eye-tracking -related part of the PRIMA project (Proactive Information Retrieval by Adaptive Models of User’s Attention and Interests), carried out during 2003–2005. The project focused on how to construct and combine user models from implicit or explicit feedback signals. If proper user models can be constructed, it will be possible to bu...

Application of eye tracking technology for screening and rehabilitation of children with special needs.

Eye tracking is a technology for measuring eye movements when looking at a point. The length of time to look at a particular situation, the sequence of observations, as well as points of attention are processed in the process of eye tracking and eye movements are identified by topics such as fixation, saccade, etc. Information about how the eyes move at a special moment has many potential appli...

Acquiring Unobtrusive Relevance Feedback through Eye-Tracking in Ambient Recommender Systems

Acquiring relevant information to keep user’s preferences up-to-date is crucial in recommender systems in order to close the cycle of recommendations. Ambient Intelligence is a suitable approach for non-intrusively closing the loop in recommender systems using ambient eye-trackers. We combine a method for acquiring relevance feedback through eye-tracking with the functionalities of an extractor...

Real-time inference of word relevance from electroencephalogram and eye gaze

Objective. Brain-computer interfaces can potentially map the subjective relevance of the visual surroundings, based on neural activity and eye movements, in order to infer the interest of a person in real-time. Approach. Readers looked for words belonging to one out of five semantic categories, while a stream of words passed at different locations on the screen. It was estimated in real-time wh...

Implicit Relevance Feedback from Eye Movements

We explore the use of eye movements as a source of implicit relevance feedback information. We construct a controlled information retrieval experiment where the relevance of each text is known, and test usefulness of implicit relevance feedback with it. If perceived relevance of a text can be predicted from eye movements, eye movement signal must contain information on the relevance. The result...
